The Clinical Case Study

  • Manisha Patil, a 40-year-old woman, came to us with several health issues she's been facing for the past two years.

  • She had a swollen belly and felt full quickly after eating. She also lost weight, had occasional stomach pain, and sometimes her food would come back up into her throat.

Initial Visit and Diagnosis

  • She visited our clinic on October 23, 2023.

  • Tests revealed a large mass in her abdomen, measuring 29 x 27 cm, and a significant hernia (a part of the stomach pushing through the abdominal wall) with a 2.5 cm opening.

  • A biopsy confirmed she had a rare tumor called STUMP (Soft Tissue Tumor of Unknown Malignant Potential).

  • After discussions with the Tumor Board, it was decided to perform elective surgery.

  • She was prepared for surgery, which took place on November 27, 2023.

The surgery involved several procedures:

  • Exploratory Laparotomy: Opening the abdomen to examine it.

  • Bilateral DJ Stenting: Placing stents (tubes) in both ureters (tubes from kidneys to bladder) to ensure urine flow.

  • Resection of the mass: Removing the tumor.

  • Hysterectomy: Removing the uterus.

  • Bilateral Salpingo-oophorectomy: Removing both fallopian tubes and ovaries.

  • Epigastric Hernia Repair: Fixing the hernia in her upper abdomen.

  • The tumor, weighing 6 kg and measuring 30 x 28 cm, was removed along with her uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries.

Postoperative Recovery

  • Her recovery after the surgery was smooth.

  • She was able to move around from the first day, started eating normally from the second day, and was discharged from the hospital on December 4, 2023 (7 days after surgery).

Final Diagnosis and Follow-up

  • The final diagnosis confirmed the tumor as STUMP/ AL-LE (Atypical Leiomyoma of Limited Experience).

  • She had the stents removed three weeks after surgery and is under regular follow-up.
